In Berlin, all new buildings will be built with solar panels on their roofs. These are the requirements of the law
Berlin has enacted a law that requires solar panels to be installed on all new buildings, according to the city’s official portal. This is how the city hopes to influence the climate situation.
In addition to new buildings, the new rule applies to buildings undergoing roof reconstruction. Solar panels must also be installed in such buildings during renovations.
In most cases, 30% of the roof area is required for panels. This applies to both residential buildings and commercial and industrial enterprises. Only buildings with a usable area of up to 50 m² were exempted from this requirement.
Berlin has a co-financing system for building owners who install solar panels, with the city covering part of the costs. In 2022 and 2023, 23.7 million euros were allocated for the program.
